What’s New in the 2018 Toyota Highlander?

Following some mid-generation styling updates in 2017, the 2018 Highlander is essentially a carryover – albeit an impressive one. The 2018 Highlander’s base engine is a 2.7L 4-cylinder, and there is also an available 3.5L V6 that provides plenty of power and a big jump up in horsepower from the standard engine – 295 hp versus 185. You can seat up to eight (seven in models with second-row captain’s chairs in lieu of the bench seat), and passenger space is adequate, especially with reclining rear seats that enhance comfort.

Six trims make up the 2018 Highlander lineup:

  • LE
  • LE Plus
  • XLE
  • SE
  • Limited
  • Limited Platinum

Depending on which trim you select, you’ll receive standard and available features that include Bluetooth technology,* five USB ports, voice recognition, tri-zone automatic climate control, navigation, a 8-inch touchscreen, a moonroof, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, rear parking sensors, leatherette seats, a surround-view camera, Driver Easy Speak, a power liftgate, heated seats, and push-button start.

There’s plenty more to discover, which you can do the best way – in person – when you visit Venice Toyota to explore our selection for yourself.

History Highlights of the Highlander

The Toyota Highlander debuted on the North American market in 2001. This car-based crossover was an instant success among the crossover-loving public. In fact, the Highlander was Toyota’s top seller until the RAV4 usurped it a few years later. People particularly praised the Highlander for its roomy interior and its huge array of highly desirable standard and available features.

A redesign in 2008 occurred around the time the crossover market was picking up momentum, and the Highlander’s sales skyrocketed. Changes for this generation included a standard V6 engine, a larger third-row seat, and more interior space.

In 2015, the Highlander’s third generation kicked off and has continued to update, upgrade, and refresh in the years that followed. In an automotive segment that doesn’t seem to be waning, the Highlander is likely to be a strong seller for generations to come.
